Campaign Chronicles Update

Released: 09/15/05

Whether visiting with business leaders or teachers, farmers or factory workers, doctors or city officials, one thing is certain - Iowans from every walk of life value their families.

At the end of a busy day, there is nothing better than coming home, settling into a favorite chair and taking a breath of solitude. Even in the midst of the commotion of raising small children, there is something peaceful about being home.

Families are the cornerstone of our society and I am deeply grateful for Darla, Hans, Josh, Lucas, and Logan.  They bring so much joy to my life and it is my love for them that motivates me to fight for a better Iowa.

Please take a few minutes to view the video clip below, and allow me to introduce you to my family.

Sincerely, Bob Vander Plaats

          Bob Vander Plaats

Bob and Family

Vander Plaats FamilyThe passion Bob has for his children is inspiring; each one has taught him new truths about life and love. With the birth of their third child, Lucas, Bob and Darla were faced with the sudden challenge of raising a child with a severe brain disorder. Their family has embraced this challenge as an opportunity to learn valuable lessons through adversity. When Darla became unexpectedly pregnant with their fourth child, the option of terminating the pregnancy was presented by the medical community. After all, would they really want to risk the birth of another Lucas? Believing that God creates ALL life, Bob and Darla never considered abortion to be an option. They were adamant that this addition to their family would be cared for and loved…regardless of the physical outcome.
